Spain Tops Netherlands to Claim Title




Rhein, Germany -- Eight teams took place in the European School Final Tournament played this weekend at the LTU Arena, home of NFL Europe's Rhein Fire. Teams from the Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, and the UK took part in this weekend tournament.

Teams were grouped into two groups of four. In Pool A, Germany took the top seed, followed by the Netherlands, Austria, and Finland. In Pool B, the UK won the top spot, followed by Spain, Italy, and the Czech Republic. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the semi-finals.

In the seventh place game, Finland defeated the Czech Republic 34-8. In the fifth place game, the Austrians defeated the Italians 20-12.

The semi-finals saw a couple of mild upsets, as #2 seed Spain defeated #1 seed Germany in overtime by a score of 37-31. The other semi-final was a one-sided affair, with #2 seed the Netherlands defeated #1 seed UK by a score of 48-20.

In the final, Spain defeated the Netherlands by a score of 31-13. Both teams have qualified for the World Championships to be held in Cologne.

In the third place game, England rolled over Germany 53-25.
